The Michael H. Nolan scrapbooks were compiled to honor Nolan's retirement from Sinclair Refining Company in 1957. They contain photographs and newspaper clippings relating to his career, as well as congratulatory letters.

Michael H. Nolan worked for the Sinclair Refining Company as superintendent of the Parco, Wyoming, refinery. He became mayor of the town in 1938, serving until 1950. Parco was renamed Sinclair on January 1, 1943. Nolan was appointed general manager of the Sinclair refinery in Wood River, Illinois, in 1950. He moved to St. Louis and retired from Sinclair in 1957.
